JazzFest White Plains is back for its eleventh year, and it's bringing an incredible lineup of in-person programs. From September 14th to 18th, you'll get to hear some of the most popular jazz stars of today. Albert Rivera, a saxophonist from the Bronx, is one of them. NPR's Owen McNally described him as “a messenger of modern jazz”.
He has been making waves nationally and internationally since he graduated from The New School University's Jazz and Contemporary Music program. Lu is another artist you won't want to miss. She brings a unique, intersectional perspective to modern jazz as a Taiwan-born female vibraphonist with a master's degree in classical music from Taipei National University of the Arts and jazz from Philadelphia University of the Arts. She is accompanied by an elite cast of musicians on her journey.
The Westchester Center for Jazz & Contemporary Music provides opportunities for musicians of all backgrounds, abilities and ages to hone their skills in jazz and other related musical forms. Sarah Hanahan is one such musician. She is an up-and-coming jazz saxophonist in New York City and is currently pursuing her master's degree in jazz performance at The Juilliard School. Benack has been featured on major international tours at Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, JALC's “NY Jazz All-Stars (Mexico), and throughout Asia and Europe.
Big Band has made appearances at FENDI's Anima Mundi project in New York City and Jazz at the Lincoln Center Big Band Christmas concert, and was awarded a prize for best trumpet soloist in Jazz at the inaugural Jack Rudin Lincoln Center championship. Lu's band has also played at many prestigious festivals, including the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, and has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and the United States. She has been a respected leading musician, appearing at notable venues and festivals around the world, including The Kennedy Center, Rose Theater, Winter Jazz Fest and The Colbert Show. Camargo, born and raised in Hollywood, Florida, is another talented musician who has been part of the Grammy Band, Next Generation Women in Jazz Combo and Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.
JazzFest White Plains is a partnership between ArtsWestchester, the City of White Plains and the IDB of White Plains. It has become a flagship event in White Plains that offers free and affordable jazz experiences for jazz enthusiasts in Westchester and beyond. A Krewe of Jazz Fest ticket is required for all children over 2 years old to access the Krewe of Jazz Fest viewing area.
